Whether you want to improve your own well-being and health or perhaps simply maintain a healthy lifestyle for yourself and your family, these tips will put you firmly on the path to happiness and wellness.

Exercise every day. You don’t need to train for a marathon (although that is a terrific goal), but just getting your body moving has great benefits. For example: do a few simple yoga moves in the morning or a few sit-ups before bed. Take a walk around the neighborhood after work. Not only will your waistline benefit, but it a walk will help clear your mind of the day’s stress.

Change your diet. For some people, this may be harder than it sounds, but start eating real food. That means avoiding processed, pre-packaged foods that contain more preservatives than nutrition. Avoid foods fried in fats and anything made with hydrogenated oils.

Take time to relax. People who make an effort to reduce the amount of stress in their lives will live longer and enjoy life more than those who do not. Remember to think about something you are grateful for every single day. When you find yourself faced with stress, concentrate on slowing down your breathing. Smile and then pass it on. A happy expression makes everyone feel better.

Get plenty of rest. If you find that you rely on coffee or energy drinks just to get moving in the morning, you may be suffering from lack of sleep. Talk to your doctor if you are having trouble sleeping. There are many non-medicinal solutions to sleep troubles. Even if you think you are getting your 8 hours worth, a sleep study may reveal that you are not you may not be getting the recuperative sleep you need.

Quit now. It has never been a better time to kick the dangerous smoking habit. Extend your life by years and add more money to your pocket. Taxes on packs of cigarettes are astronomical. Think of the money you will save every year by not buying cigarettes.

Be safe. Accidental death, not disease is the leading cause of fatality in Americans 45 and younger. Buckle up whenever you are in a car and never drink and drive. Install and learn to operate the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in your home. They just might save your life.
